Craig McKim has had his creativity rewarded by winning the reinvention category at this year's Harper's Bazaar Diamond Guild Australian Jewellery Awards. Craig was initially unsure which piece to enter in the invitation-only awards and then Brisbane fundraising whiz Danielle Harris walked into his Milton premises and asked him to redesign her engagement ring. "It was fate," says Craig, of McKims Jewellery Design. "We went through an enjoyable process to create a somewhat flamboyant design that now has more diamonds, is easy to wear and has a fun look," says the 47 year old, who lives in Newmarket. He combined Danielle's 17-year-old engagement and wedding rings to create one piece with a heart-shaped diamond as the focal point, below. "I didn't want to take away from the design of Danielle's ring - I wanted to enhance it with more sparkle, with an emphasis on what the ring symbolises," says Craig, a jeweller for 30 years. "It's a thrill to have won."
